The Working Principle of a Vibrating Sample Magnetometer


A Vibrating Sample Magnetometer operates on the principle of Faraday's Law of Induction. A sample is vibrated (typically in a sinusoidal motion) within a uniform magnetic field. This vibration causes a change in the magnetic flux, which in turn induces a voltage in strategically placed pickup coils. The magnitude of this induced voltage is directly proportional to the magnetic moment of the sample.
